2025-04-07

On March 26, a delegation from the World Bank conducted a site visit to two municipal projects undertaken by China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd (CJIC) in Tete, Mozambique, namely Urban Sanitation Project by Construction of 2934 On-Site Sanitation Facilities in Tete City and Rehabilitation and Construction of Distribution Centres and Network, Tete and Moatize.

The delegation visited the construction site of the latter project to gain a firsthand understanding of the project’s progress. They also inspected some already handed-over sanitation facilities and listened to feedback from local residents regarding their usage experience. The delegation highly praised the company's adherence to ESG principles throughout the implementation of both projects, especially its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, promoting gender equality, which demonstrates strong sense of corporate social responsibility.

During the visit, the delegation fully acknowledged the progress and quality of construction on both projects. They noted that the handed-over sanitation facilities have already delivered significant social benefits. In particular, the newly built sanitary facilities reflect thoughtful human-centered design, with accessible design features that significantly improve convenience for people with disabilities, thereby effectively expanding the projects’ social impact.

The delegation expressed hope that CJIC will continue to advance the construction of both projects efficiently, maintain strong ESG management practices, and aim for full completion and handover at the earliest possible time to benefit more local residents.
